Shannon went off the IV magnesium this morning, and on oral nifedipine. It made her feel a knot in her chest, kind of like having breathing problems. She was doing well during the day, with very few contractions, but around 7pm they went up to ~8/hour. Same thing happened yesterday evening. The drug they've been using for acute exacerbations is terbutaline, a beta-agonist, which seems to really work but is very unpleasant, basically a bad speed trip. We asked about alternatives, but the doc didn't have any. They did decide to start a 24-hour course of indomethacin as well.
We finally had a nurse who adjusted the contraction monitors properly, so they registered on the machine. We had ABL dinner at the hospital, and got to see the (unfortunately frequent) contractions register. Also
frogpyjamas spent the afternoon here.
While its good that she still hasn't gone into labor, these nightly exacerbations do not bode well for getting out of the hospital anytime soon.
