    Time Event
    12:09p
    NVP loose observations ;)
Today I think makes roughly a half dozen days since it first started of actual vomiting. I think it usually runs in "sessions" averaging between once per half hour to once per two hours for one half to one full day.

I have had a lot more plain nausea over the past few weeks. Its usually easy to tell if I'm going to throw up or not: the regular nausea isn't as intense but is more persistent. Vomiting nausea goes in spurts: it comes on really strong, I throw up a few times, I'm fine after that for a while, then it comes on fast again. I can function but am miserable on the nausea days, I can't function very well at all on the vomiting days, thankfully I don't have many of the latter ;)

I really wish my body was more specific about what it doesn't like. I think the vomiting and perhaps the general nausea as well is usually correlated with eating something it doesn't like or not eating for too long a period of time. The vomiting is also often correlated with a headache, today being typical of this. Since the headache started coming on late last night, I think today is probably not a case of not eating for too long.

Unfortunately, the only out of the ordinary thing I can think of eating from yesterday is the egg drop soup I made, which is depressing, because I really like it, and its something healthy that I was hoping to add to my diet. My diet in general has not been nearly as healthy as I would like since the NVP started: it seems that the only things I'm predictably okay with are simple carbohydrates of the Atkins "I'm not supposed to eat" nature ;) This also makes it harder to avoid sugar, but when I was relaxed about it for a while I started getting moody again, and I've been better since cutting it out, so I think its worth continuing to be strict about. (Patri argues that there shouldn't be a difference in my reaction to simple starches v.s. table sugar because of glycymic index, but I swear there is ;)

I've heard its often the case that NVP will just suddenly stop for a lot of women, so I'm really hoping I'm one of those. I just spoke with a friend who had that experience, she said around week 16 in her case... I think I'm around week 13 or 14. She said for her that once it stopped she started eating a lot and often... I'm hoping that if and when I hit that point it will be easier to rotate in some better food.

    soup hypothesis
I think I've figured out that it was indeed the soup that made me sick and why, although obviously I'm not going to be testing this hypothesis ;) It took me a little while because the soup is not spicy, and the ingredients seemed pretty benign (chicken stock, eggs, rice, lemon juice). Just now I recall hearing that a very high dosage of vitamin C can cause miscarriage, the reason being that it causes a fast internal ph change.

I probably had about 4 to 5 cups worth of soup last night, which translates to roughly between 1/4 and 1/2 of a cup of lemon juice. It seems quite likely that the acidity is what has upset my system :/ Also would confirm my salsa hypothesis for the first time this happened: salsa, in addition to being spicy, is also acidic... I wonder if it is only acidicness about spicy foods that bothers pregnant women, or if there are other things about spicy that make them dangerous.Read more... )
